Dal Makhani( Black Lentil) Recipe


 Total Time:35 Minutes.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup-Black lentil (Urad Dal)
  • 1 tbs- Cumin  seeds
  • 1 tbs-Red chilli powder
  • 1 tbs- Turmeric powder
  • 6-7-Garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 tbs- Ginger crushed
  • 1/2 Cup-Fresh cream
  • 3 tbs-Butter
  • 2-Tomatoes boiled mashed puree
  • 2-Onion chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh leaves coriander chopped
  • Water
Direction: How To Cook.

  • Soak whole black lentil( urad dal) in large bowl and add enough water and soak overnight or at least for 5-6 hours.


  • Rinse the dal in a running water and transfer in to pressure cooker and add 4 cups of water.Close the lid and pressure cook on medium flame for 5 whistles or till the lentil(dal) are cooked completely. approximately time 20-25 minutes.



  • And then heat the butter in a large pot or kadai or add cumin seeds when its start cracking then add onion and saute till onion turn light brown.
  • After onion are done,add ginger,garlic,stir them when they turn light brown then add tomatoes puree and cook for 1-2 minutes and then add red chilli powder,salt to taste ,turmeric powder and cook for a minute,once the masalas start releasing oil from sides ,it means masala cooked well.





  • And add cooked dal and stir and add water according to the consistency.
  • Cook for 10 minutes or more till the lentil(dal) absorbs flavour and turn thick. and add fresh cream and mix well and add  chopped fresh coriander leaves.

  • Serve dal makhani (Black lentil) with jeera(cumin) rice or garlic naan or roti.
  • Note: you can add garam masala,1-2 bay leaf(tej patta)
